Why you should replace your air filter this winter12/13/2016 We encourage preventative maintenance on your heating and air conditioning equipment frequently, but this doesn’t only mean annual tune-ups – it also involves checking your air filters. It’s a simple way to help keep your system operating smoothly and improve your indoor air quality, and you can easily do it by yourself! Now is the perfect time to examine your filter, as the cooler weather comes to an end and summer is on the horizon. There are several benefits to changing out your air filter, such as: Increasing the life and efficiency of your system A definite way to trigger a system breakdown is a dirty air filter. Additional dirt that is built up on your filter can cause your whole system to work harder than it should to keep the air in your home cool. Not only will it hinder the performance of your system, but it can increase your utility bills and cause your system to overheat. Improving indoor air quality The goal of an air filter is that it snatches contaminants through your air system before it reaches your residence. The older a filter gets, the less effective it is in grabbing things like dust and mold that can impact the health and comfort of your home, particularly if someone in your home suffers from allergies or asthma. With spring near, pollen and mold are especially expected to be hanging around and you don’t want them moving in your home. A quality, clean air filter will help you breathe easy and keep healthy during allergy season. Check your system or current air filter provider for guidance on how often you should be changing your filter. For most filters through Tokay Heating and Air Conditioning, we suggest an annual change with the highest MERV filter available. Not sure if it’s the ideal time to change your air filter?
