Why you should replace your air filter this winter

We stress regular maintenance on your heating and air conditioning equipment frequently, but this doesn’t only mean annual tune-ups – it also involves checking your air filters. It’s an easy way to help keep your system operating smoothly and increase your indoor air quality, and you can easily do it by yourself! Today is the best time to examine your filter, as the cooler weather comes to a close and the warmer weather is on the horizon. There are many benefits to changing out your air filter, such as:

Increasing the life and efficiency of your system
A surefire way to cause a system breakdown is a dirty air filter. Additional dirt that gathers on your filter can force your whole system to run harder than it should to keep the air in your home cool. Not only will it hinder the performance of your system, but it can impact your utility bills and end with an overheated system.

Improving indoor air quality
The goal of an air filter is that it snatches contaminants through your air system before it reaches your residence. The older a filter gets, the less efficient it is in grabbing things like dust and mold that can affect the health and comfort of your indoor space, particularly if someone in your family suffers from allergies or asthma. With warmer temps near, pollen and mold are especially expected to be hanging around and you would prefer they aren’t moving in your home. A quality, clean air filter will help you breathe easy and keep healthy during allergy season.

Check your system or current air filter provider for guidance on how often you should be changing your filter. For the majority of the filters through Tokay Heating and Air Conditioning, we recommend an annual change with the highest MERV filter that is offered.
