The Next Generation of Cooling Refrigerants. Stored in your air conditioner’s coils, refrigerants are liquids that cool and dehumidify your air. If we didn’t have refrigerants, we wouldn’t have air conditioning. For a long time, the most common AC refrigerant was R-22 (Freon), but in 2012 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mandated the phase-out of R-22 through the Clean Air Act. By 2020, it will be illegal to produce R-22 as a result of its damage to the environment. Introducing R-410A To decrease environmental impacts, all Lennox® products are now engineered to work with the new R-410A AC refrigerant. R-410A is EPA-recognized and contains no chlorine, which means it’s ozone-friendly. You can feel at ease using this refrigerant in Lodi because it’ll help make your cooling system perform efficiently, reliably and quietly, and deliver the same cool comfort in the warmer months. Additional Considerations If your AC or heat pump was manufactured anytime before 2010, it may not be R-410A-compatible. You may want to investigate upgrading your cooling system before R-22 is completely unavailable. The old refrigerant will become rare in the next few years, costing you more to run your system effectively. The Lennox products we offer at Tokay Heating and Air Conditioning work with R-410A, so you know we have an AC or heat pump you can better rely on. You should also refrain from using”alternate refrigerants that claim to work in R-22 systems. These include R-407C, R-438A and R-422, all of which can actually compromise your system’s performance.
